The track appears on the Texas band’s debut full-length album, Friends That I Don’t Like, which arrived on October 2 via Severance Records/Big Loud Rock. The 14-track record also features ‘Freakin’ Out’, ‘It’s A Lot’, ‘If You Could Talk’ and ‘12 Steps’ featuring Treaty Oak Revival.

‘Why Don’t You Say So’ is a little different from the band’s more established material, bringing Anna into their mix of rock, grunge and country influences. Dexter and The Moonrocks have previously described their sound as “Western space grunge”, a description that has followed them as their profile has grown significantly throughout 2026.

The collaboration came together quickly. According to drummer Ryan Fox, he first connected with Anna through social media after noticing she was already making TikToks using ‘Freakin’ Out’. He approached her about appearing on the track, with the song reportedly coming together within 72 hours.

The release arrives during a major year for Dexter and The Moonrocks. ‘Freakin’ Out’ became the band’s first Billboard Hot 100 entry, reaching No. 33, while also reaching No. 1 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart and spending five weeks at No. 1 on Alternative Airplay. The track has also surpassed 300 million global streams and earned RIAA Platinum certification.

The band are now taking Friends That I Don’t Like on the road, with upcoming Australian dates including Strummingbird Festival and support dates with Bailey Zimmerman. Their current schedule runs through Australia this month before returning to North America.

‘Why Don’t You Say So’ gives Dexter and The Moonrocks another opportunity to push beyond the usual boundaries of rock and country, while Anna gets to step further into the heavier side of her influences. With the debut album now out, the collaboration arrives at a useful point for a band whose audience has expanded rapidly over the past year.
