Foo Fighters had opened the show, which was the final date of AC/DC’s two-year Power Up tour. The concert had originally been scheduled for 25 September but was postponed due to severe weather, making the rescheduled MetLife Stadium date the tour finale.

During Foo Fighters’ opening set, Grohl spoke about the influence AC/DC had on him from an early age, recalling seeing the band’s Let There Be Rock concert film when he was 11.

“I saw that movie when I was 11 years old and I was like, I want to do that for the rest of my life,” Grohl told the crowd. “So here we are... I’m going to live my childhood dream again, tonight.”

Later in the evening, Grohl returned to the stage with AC/DC for ‘Highway To Hell’, with Brian Johnson introducing him before the performance.

The appearance followed another Foo Fighters connection with the tour. The band had previously stepped in as support for AC/DC’s St Louis show in September, replacing The Pretty Reckless.

The MetLife show also leaves AC/DC’s immediate future uncertain. The band have not announced any further dates following the Power Up tour, while Johnson told the New Jersey crowd at the end of the show: “Good night, hope we’ll see you again.”

For now, there is no confirmation that AC/DC have played their final show, but the end of the tour gives Grohl’s appearance an added significance.
