Queens Of The Stone Age have released ‘Where The Goth Girls At?’, the third single from their forthcoming ninth album, Perfecth.
The song looks back to Josh Homme’s teenage years in Palm Desert, where he became fascinated by the goth girls working at a local JCPenney. What starts as a memory of teenage attraction becomes a song about wanting to be noticed, impressing someone and deciding where you want to belong.
Musically, ‘Where The Goth Girls At?’ keeps things relatively lean at first, with Homme’s guitar carrying the verses before the track opens into a much larger chorus. Strings and horns add an unexpected orchestral layer around the band’s familiar guitar-driven sound.
The video takes the song’s premise somewhere considerably stranger. Inside an abandoned power plant, a goth woman arrives and begins transforming the people around her, with black ink spreading through the building as the workers are pulled into her world. The band appear alongside comedian Steve Agee, dancer and artist Scarlett Kapella and singer and actress Lou Lou Safran, with the whole thing gradually tipping from industrial setting into something closer to a surreal horror film.
It also reunites Queens Of The Stone Age with directors Christopher Gruse and Tony Wolski, who previously worked with the band on the video for ‘Easy Street’.
Perfecth arrives 30 October via Matador Records and follows the band’s 2023 album In Times New Roman…. The nine-track record was produced by Homme and Michael Shuman.
